Advanced Higher Art Exhibition

This year’s Advanced Higher Art and Design Exhibition takes place on Wednesday 22nd May between 4pm and 7pm. Work from the Higher Photography class will also be featured.
S1 Scientist of the Month - May
S1 pupils were given the task to produce a short report on a forensic laboratory technique, following on from a Science topic pupils had been studying focusing on separation techniques in the lab. There were a wide range of techniques researched - from fingerprinting to analysis of blood splatters to forensic odontology.
Yorkhill Children's Foundation

This week Kirkintilloch High School donated £289.27 to Yorkhilll Children's Foundation.
Library Easter competition

Congratulations to Ruairi Ferris, Ross Brown and Hannah Cramman who were winners in the library’s ‘design an Easter egg’ competition.

Easter holiday
The school will close at 2.30pm on Thursday 28th March and will re-open at 8.55am on Monday 15th April.
What a Fizzy Time!
In the February of 2013, twenty-six pupils and two staff members (Mrs Dorans and Mr Chappelle) gathered on a bus and journeyed for forty-five minutes, through the cold snowy weather of Scotland, to reach the gates of none other than Coca Cola Enterprises.
Youth and Philanthropy Initiative
On Friday 15th March a number of Kirkintilloch High School’s S6 pupils presented in groups on charities for YPI (Youth and Philanthropy Initiative) to raise £3000 for a deserving local cause.

AN INSPIRING assembly marked Holocaust Memorial Day at Kirkintilloch High School last week, bringing pupils of all ages together to highlight the dangers of intolerance and disrespect.

As part of our ongoing Curriculum for Excellence work, the Science Departments competition – Young Scientist of the Month continues to be popular with pupils.

Fire Ambassadors
In a new initiative between Kirkintilloch High School and the Fire and Rescue Service, S4 Princes’ Trust pupils have taken on the roles as Fire Ambassadors. The pupils have been working closely with the Fire and Rescue Service to promote information regarding home fire safety.
East Dunbartonshire Primary School Improvement Programme
The informal consultation on the options packages identified by Council consists of a questionnaire. This questionnaire is open for any resident of East Dunbartonshire to complete, to make their views known. 10,000 randomly selected households have received a copy of this questionnaire by post. If you did not receive a questionnaire, you can fill in an online version, or request a paper copy from the Council.
Doodle Competition Winner
Congratulations to Becky Hopkins who won the KHS heat of a Doodle Competition, run by East Dunbartonshire Council and the East Dunbartonshire Association for Mental Health. She received a £25 iTunes voucher and certificate. Well done to Becky, and thanks to the Art department for helping to run the competition.

The S3 XL class have been preparing for Christmas but they have also been thinking of others at this special time of year.
Make-up Artistry course
The Intermediate 2 Drama class were recently visited by
make-up students from Cumbernauld College’s Make-up Artistry course.
Guidance News
On Friday 16th November, 12 fifth year pupils from Kirkintilloch High School attended a course at Historic Scotland’s training centre in Stirling.
Following this excursion, the pupils then attended an open day at North Glasgow College on the 23rd of November.

Campsie View is a special school for children and young people aged 2-19 years. The school serves all of East Dunbartonshire and pupils have a wide range of needs.

Mr G Rafferty (Art and Design Department) accompanied the pupils during their day visit and witnessed how the team achieved their goal. The above pictures capture and demonstrate their skills. All of the pupils have expressed their great satisfaction in being given the opportunity to help others. The experience will always be remembered and their act of citizenship will prove invaluable as they find themselves making applications for work or full-time study.

Temporary Road Traffic Management
Works by Scotland Gas Networks will require Temporary Traffic Management on the B8048 Waterside Road and Kirkintilloch Road. These works are due to commence on Monday 8 October 2012 and it is anticipated will last for approximately 5 months.
