Youth and Philanthropy Initiative

On Friday 29 November a number of Kirkintilloch High School’s S6 pupils competed in teams to present on charities for YPI (Youth and Philanthropy Initiative) to raise £3000 for a deserving local charity.

Building on the inspiration and success of last year our S6 set out to raise the bar, meeting with their charities both in school and at charity premises, as well as meeting with a selection of the many people that the charities help. These inspirational visits helped the teams in delivering excellent presentations using innovative methods, from video interviews to Prezi, to convince the panel of judges on the merits of their local cause.
This year’s judging panel was composed of Head Teacher Mr Muir, S6 pupils Alexander Kirkman and Rachel Crawford, as well as the campus police officer PC Gerry Christie.
The charities represented were; 3D Drumchapel, DAYNA, the Kirkintilloch Addiction Recovery Centre, MS Revive, Enable and the winning team representing Strathkelvin Talking News. All of the presenters were very convincing when speaking on their charities, but the passion and knowledge of the winning group narrowly edged them over the others. The team, made up of pupils Jordan Wightman, Craig Donald, Daniel Nash and Jack Thomson, have secured for Strathkelvin TN an award of £3000.
