P7 Transition

Last week saw the completion of another highly successful transition programme for the primary 7 pupils who will start Kirkintilloch High School in August. The pupils took part, in their new House groups, in a challenge afternoon, which had them taking part in various activities to encourage team building and communication, including Making a Bridge and Human Bingo. This event was organised by Mrs Muotune, Principal Teacher from Hillhead primary school. The pupils also followed their timetables for two days, learning how to find their way around the new building and having their break and lunch in a much larger environment. They were chaperoned around the school by a band of extremely helpful S2 and senior pupils.

At the end of the transition visits, the pupils watched the premiere of a film of them taking part in some John Muir missions. The missions saw the pupils ‘walk 1000 steps’, ‘act like a Victorian explorer’, ‘go barefoot’, ‘dance to stay warm’ and ‘stand on top of a mountain’. Each activity was filmed by the primary school and these small films were edited by Ms Eadie from Kirkintilloch High School into one large film. The pupils enjoyed seeing themselves on the big screen in the assembly hall. The Kirkintilloch High School band also performed for the p7 pupils – perhaps there were some budding musicians in the audience?
The p7 pupils finally make the transition to being an S1 pupil on Thursday 14 August – the pupils and staff of Kirkintilloch High School look forward to welcoming them!
