House System

The House system was re-launched this year with a more structured format and greater pupil and staff involvement.

Pupils were appointed to positions of Vice and House Captains through a rigorous selection process involving class elections and presentations at House Assemblies. All pupils within each house were presented with a House badge for their blazer and all staff were allocated to a House.

There were numerous events throughout the year including pupil and staff karaoke, football, pumpkin carving at Halloween, school discos, quizzes, Who dares Wins competition, redesign of registration doors in an Easter theme, maths challenge and athletics. Points were also awarded for Houses with the best attendance and behaviour records.

It was a very close competition throughout and the final placings were not secured until the last event. The winners of the 2013-14 Interhouse competition were Holmfield, with Waverley 2nd, Solsgirth 3rd and Peel 4th. Ewan Cosh of S3 received the House shield at the recent prizegiving event.

Money raised by the House fundraising events was split between the 4 nominated charities:
Strathcarron Hospice,
Yorkhill Sick Kids Hospital,
Teenage Cancer Trust and
Crisis UK.

Through their involvement in Kirkintilloch High School’s Interhouse events the pupils developed their self-awareness, self-worth and respect for others, they overcame challenges and built relationships as well as experiencing personal achievement.

We look forward to the continued success of the Interhouse programme next session and hope to include even more events.
