Buddy Training

On Friday 29th August, fifty S5/6 pupils took part in a training afternoon. This was organised by Mrs Hay and led by the Guidance team and some 6th year students who had been buddies last year. The training consisted of a number of activities which prepared the Senior pupils to become buddies to first year pupils.

The buddy programme has been very useful in previous years in helping the new first years settle into secondary school. The Senior buddies have a number of roles:
·         To help younger children make the transition to a new school
·         To assist with topics of concern to other pupils
·         To assist pupils in resolving disputes
·         To help sort out concerns, brainstorm ideas and to offer practical help
·         To reach out to lonely or troubled pupils
The afternoon received positive feedback from all the pupils and teachers that were involved. One student credited it as a “fun experience that developed her skills and has allowed her to become a better buddy.”
