Entrepreneur Live!

On Tuesday 4th November, 5 of our business students joined over 300 business students at “Entrepreneur Live!” – a UK tour of entrepreneurs.  The only Scottish date was based in the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Headquarters in Gogarburn, Edinburgh.

This fantastic opportunity gave our aspiring entrepreneurs a chance to hear from leading UK entrepreneurs and ask questions about sourcing funding, uses of social media for promotion purposes and growing a great business idea.

Nicole Cruickshank, Daniel Farmer, Sarah Gulland, Rachel Bell and Claire Pender were able to hear the experiences of 5 young entrepreneurs (Cally Russell – Mallzee, James Brown – Beer52, Kirsty Henshaw – Kirsty’s Freedom Foods, Louis Barnett – Chokolit and Rob Tominey – Mainstage Travel) with business ideas ranging from chocolatier to shopping apps.

Kirsty Henshaw set a challenge to develop a ready-meal product for her range of ready meals.  Groups had to decide on the unique selling point, the price and why, suggest 3 ways the ready-meal would be marketed, design the front of the card ‘wrap’ that would surround the meal and finally, write a tweet that described the product.  Before the day ended our group pitched their great idea of a ‘Nacho Healthy Ready Meal’ for Kirsty’s Freedom Foods line in a ‘Dragons Den’ type pitch and came 1st out of a final twelve group, and won a great cash prize!  All in all, this was an amazing day out enjoyed by all.
