Kirkintilloch Rotary: Area Final of Young Musician of the Year

Performers from Lenzie Academy, St. Ninian’s High School and Kirkintilloch High School have been practising like mad over recent weeks in preparation for Wednesday night’s ‘Young Musician of the Year’ competition.  After winning their school heats, five pupils from the three schools performed against one another in two categories: ‘Young Vocalist of the Year’ and ‘Young Instrumentalist of the Year’. This year the final was hosted by Kirkintilloch High School, who continue to provide a platform for young musicians to thrive and showcase their hard work.

The judges had no easy job deciding between the finalists in this heat due to the quality of all the performances. Chair judge, Hillary Dickie, commented on the obvious attention to musical details, excellent diction and the appropriateness of song choice for the singers and overall for both categories, the importance of engaging with your audience and performing with conviction.

Congratulations to the winner of the vocal competition, Megan Kilpatrick (centre) from Lenzie Academy, accompanied by Mrs Janice Sim, and winner of the instrumental competition, Connor Hogan from Kirkintilloch High School performing on electric guitar.  Congratulations also to Rebecca Nicolson (back right) from Kirkintilloch High School and Murren Gallagher from St. Ninian’s Academy (back left) for their vocal performances and Holly-Aobh Richards (front left) for her performance on violin.

We look forward to seeing and hearing Megan and Connor performing at the next round in the ‘Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’ in February 2015 and wish them all the best.
