Higher Biology

The Higher Biology course builds on the concepts developed in Standard Grade Biology in much more depth. The continuing development of knowledge and understanding, problem solving and practical abilities form the basis of the Higher course.
Success is dependant on good attendance and completion of course work and homework.
The course has 3 x 40 hour units:
  • Cell Biology
  • Genetics and Adaptation
  • Control and Regulation
This course is suitable for those who have attained a Credit grade 1/2 in the Knowledge element of their Standard Grade Biology, a grade A at Intermediate 2 or a grade A in Higher grade Chemistry or Physics.
Course Assessment
To gain an overall award, candidates must pass all 3 Unit assessments, complete one detailed experimental report and pass the external exam.
The 2.5 hour exam will consist of multiple choice questions, structured questions, data handling responses and extended responses.
