Language and literacy are of personal, social and economic importance. Your ability to use language lies at the centre of the development and expression of you emotions, thinking, learning and sense of personal identity. 

The English department offers the following three courses leading to National Qualifications: Higher, National 5 and National 4. It is always our aim to try to place senior pupils in sections which are appropriate to their ability, and which represent the most logical progression from their achievement in S4/S5. In the way, potential future achievement is maximised. 

All courses are designed to enhance the experience of candidates through the structured study of language and literature and the development of analytical skills. Candidates must attend very regularly and show commitment to the course, and have the ability to work independently. Progress, effort and attendance are regularly monitored by the department.
