On Sunday, 22nd February, ten of our talented pupils brought some unexpected festive magic to the "Christmas in February" event hosted by the East Dunbartonshire Befriending Service (EDBS).
Bringing Joy to Townhead
EDBS is a fantastic non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing social isolation and loneliness for adults throughout East Dunbartonshire. This year, our pupils were invited to help make their annual celebration extra special.
Supported by Miss Horning and Mrs Wyles, our students performed a beautiful selection of Christmas carols, shared a meal with the attendees, and helped distribute raffle prizes.
A huge well done to our performers:
Poppie, Fearne, Lily, Mia, Mya, Matilda, Elisha, Ruby, Eliana, and Alex
The Power of Music and Connection
Events like these are about more than just singing; they allow our young people to develop essential life skills that go beyond the classroom:
Empathy and Citizenship: By engaging with the "younger generation," our pupils helped combat loneliness and brought "smiles to everyone's face".
Social Confidence: Interacting with adults from different walks of life helps build communication skills and community spirit.
Generosity of Spirit: Our pupils volunteered their time to ensure that befriendees experienced a day filled with joy and connection.
As Service Manager Dawn Bunce noted, having our students join the event brought a unique joy to the befriendees, making the day truly unforgettable. We are incredibly proud of our pupils for being such wonderful ambassadors for Kirkintilloch High School.
